The waterproof ability of LED Light String is usually measured according to the protection level standard (IP code) established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). In humid environments with high salt content, such as at the seaside, common waterproof levels are IP65, IP66, IP67 and even IP68. IP65 means that the light string is completely protected from dust and can withstand low-pressure water jets from all directions. This means that in general seaside rainfall conditions, rainwater will not invade the interior of the light string, and the electronic components of the light string can be effectively protected from moisture damage. For example, in the occasional shower weather at the seaside, IP65-rated light strings can work normally and will not malfunction due to rain.
IP66: In addition to the dustproof and low-pressure water jet resistance of IP65, it can also withstand stronger water jets. At the seaside, waves may splash onto the light string. IP66-rated light strings can better withstand this strong water flow impact and ensure the stable operation of the light string. IP67 indicates that the light string can be immersed in water of a certain depth for a short time without being damaged. If the light string is installed near the water surface at the seaside and is occasionally submerged by the waves for a short time, the IP67-rated light string can maintain normal operation in this case. IP68 is a higher waterproof rating, indicating that the light string can be used underwater for a long time. In some special seaside landscape lighting projects, the light string may need to be installed underwater, such as submarine tunnel lighting, etc., and the IP68-rated light string can meet this demand.
The waterproof design of the LED waterproof light string is mainly achieved through sealing and protective structures. The outer shell of the light string is usually made of waterproof and weather-resistant materials such as silicone, rubber or special plastics. These materials have good flexibility and sealing, and can effectively prevent moisture from entering the interior of the light string. At the same time, the connection parts and interfaces of the light string will also be specially sealed, such as using waterproof rubber rings, sealants, etc., to ensure that moisture does not penetrate from these parts.
Corrosion resistance
The high salt content in the seaside environment will cause corrosion to the metal parts and electronic components of the light string. In order to cope with this environment, the LED waterproof light string is very particular about the selection of materials. Metal parts in the light string, such as wires and connectors, are usually made of metal materials with good corrosion resistance, such as stainless steel and aluminum alloy. A dense oxide film will form on the surface of these materials, which can prevent salt and moisture from further reacting with the metal, thereby slowing down the corrosion rate. For electronic components such as lamp beads and chips, a closed structure will be used for packaging. The packaging material has good sealing and chemical stability, which can prevent salt and moisture from entering the components and protect their normal operation.
In addition to choosing the right materials, the LED waterproof light string will also be specially treated on the surface to enhance its corrosion resistance. Nano protective coating can be applied on the surface of the light string. This coating can form a nano protective layer with excellent waterproof, moisture-proof and corrosion-resistant properties. The nano protective layer can effectively prevent electronic product components from wading and being damp and corroded by acids, alkalis and salts, greatly extending the service life of the light string. For some metal parts, electroplating can also be used for surface treatment. For example, plating a layer of metals such as zinc and nickel on the metal surface can improve the metal's corrosion resistance and increase its aesthetics.
